Choose your Email or News Client:

Microsoft Outlook Express

  1. Once Outlook Express is open, you will need to click on Tools, then Accounts to begin to configure the program to use your First Internet email account.
  2. From the window that appears after having clicked on Accounts, choose and click the Mail tab.
  3. Having clicked on the "mail" tab, click on the "add" button to the right. From this menu, select Mail.
  4. Outlook will now ask your real name for the new account to be set up. Please enter it in the space provided.
  5. Now you will need to enter your email address in the space provided.
  6. Enter the necessary information:
    • POP3 server type
    • SMTP server is mail.firstinter.net
    • POP3 server is mail.firstinter.net
  7. You will now need to enter your POP3(mail) username and corresponding password to access your mail account.
  8. Now, simply give this mail account a name. Using the name "First Internet" will usually do the trick.
  9. If you usually make a connection with First Internet before checking your mail, then simply choose "...connect manually..." and click on OK, otherwise click on "...connect using my phone line.." if you would like Outlook Express to dial the Internet f or you.
  10. Outlook Express wants you to specify how you would like it to dial the Internet. From the choices listed, choose "...use existing connection...", and subsequently select your First Internet connection from the window below.

Netscape Mail (Netscape 3.x )

  1. Click on the Options Menu Selection, then Mail and News Preferences.
  2. Next, you will need to click on the Identity Tab, filling in the following information:
    • Name: your name
    • Organization: optional
    • Reply-to-address: yourusername@firstinter.net
  3. Next, click on the Servers tab, supplying the following information:
    • Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server: mail.firstinter.net
    • Incoming (POP3) Mail Server: mail.firstinter.net
    • POP3 username: yourusername
  4. Once you hit OK to save the settings changes you have made, you should be able to check your mail by clicking the Get Mail button from Netscape Mail.

Netscape Communicator

  1. Once you have opened Netscape Communicator Mail, you will need to click on Edit, then Preferences to begin to configure the program to use your First Internet email account.
  2. Click the "+" next to "Mail and Groups" and highlight "Identity", filling out the information as shown:
    • Name: your name
    • Email Address: yourusername@firstinter.net
    • Organization: optional
  3. Now highlight Mail Server, then fill in the appropriate information as shown:
    • Mail server username: yourusername
    • Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): mail.firstinter.net
    • Incoming Mail Server: mail.firstinter.net
  4. After filling those fields, hit OK to save your changes.
  5. You should be able to check your mail by clicking on Get Mail from Netscape Messenger.

Eudora Light


  1. Once you have opened Eudora, you will need to click on the "Special" menu selection.
  2. Upon Clicking "Special", you will need to click on "Settings".
  3. Once you click on "Settings", you will see a window with two panes. In the left-side pane, select "Getting Started". Fill in the following information:
    • POP Account: yourusername@mail.firstinter.net
    • Real Name: Your Real Name
  4. Now click on "Personal Information" (in the left pane)...You shouldn't have to enter any information here. You should find that your Real Name and your email address (POP3 account) are already there, having been carried over from the last s creen.
  5. Now click on "Hosts" (from the left pane)... Fill in your information as needed. Your SMTP server is mail.firstinter.net
  6. If you have followed the instructions thus far, it should not be necessary to go any farther with this configuration. You should be able to click on OK, then proceed to Check Mail.

Microsoft Internet Mail

  1. From the Microsoft Internet Mail screen, choose the 'mail' heading from the menu bar.
  2. Choose 'Options' from the 'mail' menu selection.
  3. From the window that appears, choose the 'Server' tab and enter the appropriate information:
    • Name: your name
    • Organization: optional
    • Email Address: yourusername@firstinter.net
    • Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server: mail.firstinter.net
    • Incoming (POP3) Mail Server: mail.firstinter.net
    • POP3 Account: yourusername
    • Password: yourpassword
  4. Click on the 'connection' tab and select "I connect manually" if you usually initiate a connection before checking mail. Choose "Connect using a modem" and select the appropriate dial up networking connection if you would like the program to d ial for you.
